Not everything in wrestling makes us smile. Our favorites (Oh hi, Rusev) don't get booked as strongly as we'd like them to be booked, while wrestlers we feel aren't ready for a superhero-like push (Oh hi, Roman) get catapulted to the main event and asked to cut the dorkiest of promos. Storylines, such as Jinder Mahal vs. Shinsuke Nakamura in 2017, may annoy us by favoring the wrong person or rubbing fans the wrong way (that storyline did both), and promotions may get rid of wrestlers whom we love, but were never given the respect they deserved. Good thing we have wrestling memes to put those smiles back on our faces.

For this list of memes, we shall be looking mainly at those that were inspired by WWE events of the past 12 months or so. We will, however, mix things up a bit on occasion and include a few memes that are a year or two old, because even up to now, they still put a smile on our faces. Either way, if it's memes you want, it's memes you got, as we shall now be bringing you 21 wrestling memes that we hope are funny enough to get you rolling on the mat with laughter.

21 Booking Roman Vs. Brock At 'Mania

via heelbook.com

The Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns main event at WrestleMania 31 wasn't that bad. It was pretty solid, even before Seth Rollins popped the crowd big-time with his Money in the Bank cash-in. But when the Beast and the Big Dog were back in the ring for the WrestleMania 34 main event, it was as close as you could get to a car crash. But before that mishap of epic proportions, Vince McMahon had to choose one road or the other when driving that figurative creative car of his – go straight and let Brock and Roman do their thing, or make a turn and have both men spam their finishers and signature moves, not to mention cram as many false finishes as possible in 16 minutes?

As we now know, Vince took the latter path, and what a path it was, with Reigns kicking out of five F5's and bleeding the hard way before the sixth F5 finally took him out. While many fans were relieved that this year's 'Mania didn't become another example of "#ReignsWinsLOL," that didn't make the match any less reviled by the Superdome crowd. If only WWE took the simple route and refrained from overbooking. If only...

20 When You're Stuck With The Chinless One

via wattpad.com

For a while, James Ellsworth came out of nowhere to become the most talked-about wrestler in WWE. Originally jobbed out to Braun Strowman on Monday Night Raw, he was shockingly signed to a full-time contract by WWE, and for a moment, the fans loved it. Then came some of the most implausible booking in recent history, as the way-undersized Ellsworth, who wasn't anything special in the ring, ended up beating AJ Styles not once, not twice, but THRICE.

And it was all in the name of making him a comedy prop for Dean Ambrose during his rivalry against the Phenomenal One.

Sure, Ambrose was currently reigning as WWE Champion at the time of the storyline with Styles and Ellsworth, but we can bet he was wishing that he was on Raw instead, where former Shield "brothers" Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns were coming damn close to teasing the faction's reunion. Meanwhile, Ellsworth would eventually turn on Ambrose, then form a partnership with Carmella that saw him blatantly help her in becoming the first-ever Ms. Money in the Bank. You can't say he didn't have an eventful run with the WWE.

19 When You're Partnered With That Annoying Kid In Class

via kraks.co

This one's something a lot of us can relate to. You've got a group activity in class, and the teacher picks your partners, then you end up getting paired with that kid who keeps talking about his dad and what he does for a living, even if nobody asked him. Or the good news is that teacher's letting you choose your own partner, but you show up late for class, forcing you to pair up with said kid that none of you like, due to said bragging and entitled behavior.

That's pretty much the vibe here, as Seth Rollins looks none too thrilled to be told by Kurt Angle that he has to team up with his long-lost "son," Jason Jordan.

And just like that class activity where you and your annoying partner got an A, Rollins and Jordan did end up briefly holding the Raw Tag Team titles. Unfortunately, an injury to Jordan put an end to that championship run, but you better believe he was playing that whiney-snowflake-son-of-the-GM role to the hilt.

18 Deja Vu? Yes Way, Jose!

via heelbook.com

The Raw after WrestleMania 34 was packed with show-stopping debuts and returns. The Authors of Pain squashed Heath Slater and Rhyno, then inexplicably fired Paul Ellering. Ember Moon tagged with Nia Jax, then introduced main roster fans to the Eclipse in devastating fashion. Bobby Lashley stepped in to interrupt Elias' musical number in the most dominating way possible. Dolph Ziggler destroyed Titus Worldwide with the help of that guy from 3MB Drew McIntyre. Then there was No Way Jose. Who quickly disposed of a local talent to the amazement of nobody.

Don't get us wrong – the jury is certainly still out on No Way Jose. But clueless Vince in the above meme (and a lot of us) had some big-time deja vu when the fresh NXT call-up entered the ring with a catchy theme and a bunch of randos forming a conga line. But if we've learned anything from Adam Rose and his Exotic Express, we might have ended up seeing the future of the WWE in disguise. (Right, Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss? Right, Braun Strowman?)

17 No Thanks, We're Good Walking With Elias

via lightning-of-roar.deviantart.com

Nobody would have expected it when he was called up to the main roster last year. While he still remains very much a mid-card performer, Elias has been on fire since losing his last name, and a lot of it has to do with his catchphrase – "Who wants to Walk With Elias?" Of course, you know why we capitalized those last three words; WWE may stand for World Wrestling Entertainment, but for a lot of Monday Night Raw viewers, WWE is short for the (former?) Drifter's catchphrase.

Now what if you traded the word "walk" with any other verb – would it still be the same?

Looking at the above meme, we would most emphatically answer in the negative. First of all, he looks absolutely ridiculous in those other three outfits. Secondly, would he have an opportunity to insult the home crowd and local sports teams through song if he was given an occupational gimmick such as a cook, home shopping host, or ballroom dancer?

16 Hanging Out With The Boys

via memedroid.com

Ever since it was first reported last year that Kurt Angle would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, fans had wanted to see the soon-to-be Raw general manager back in a WWE ring for the first time in over a decade. Well, they finally did, but it wasn't in the way anyone had expected – instead of his trademark red, white, and blue singlet, Angle was wearing the all-black riot gear favored by The Shield, specifically the variant worn by Roman Reigns, who was sidelined with an illness at last year's TLC pay-per-view.

That's just part of what makes this meme awesome. If you take a look at Angle's facial expression, you can see how stoked he appears in comparison to the more stoic-looking Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.

Truly, he looks like a husband who's just been given permission from the wife to have a few beers with his work buddies, though in Angle's real-life case, he'll surely be passing on the brews, on account of his dedication to stay sober after slaying his personal demons.

15 The King Of 'Making Me Look Strong' Style

via memecenter.com

It still boggles the mind as to why WWE insists on calling Shinsuke Nakamura as "the Rock Star." Yeah, we get that he's extremely charismatic, but we've yet to hear him sing or play a musical instrument like we do with Elias. To most fans, especially those familiar with his work in New Japan, he will always be the King of Strong Style, and we're hoping his recent heel turn will soon lead to a WWE Championship, a long overdue title even if he's spent only one year so far on the main roster.

Meanwhile, there's the King of "Making Me Look Strong" Style, and even if you don't look at the above meme, it would still be obvious that its creator was referring to none other than Roman Reigns. It's preaching to the choir when we say that WWE is as bullish as ever on the Big Dog, and even if he lost to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34, it's widely expected that he will conquer the Beast at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, where Reigns is actually beloved by audiences.

Now that's making someone look strong.

14 Nakamura's Got Something Corbin Doesn't

via pinterest.com

We've got another Shinsuke Nakamura meme for you in this list, and it's a pretty savage burn, we'd say, to the man whom he very briefly had a minor feud with. Many were surprised when Baron Corbin won the Money in the Bank briefcase last year, and while WWE was quite high on him at that time, it wasn't like he was the most over guy on SmackDown Live – big guy with an awesome-looking finisher, but lacking in other areas, and, in the eyes of many fans, not a very exciting wrestler.

That's why it's funny to see Nakamura doing his usual pose in the ring as Corbin gloats with the Money in the Bank briefcase, calmly telling him that he's got something the Lone Wolf doesn't, and will never have – fans.

In the end, Corbin's MITB win was all for naught, as he lost his cash-in attempt and was virtually buried for most of the months that followed, while Nakamura won the Royal Rumble and made up for his WrestleMania loss with an awesome heel. See? Vince McMahon does listen to the fans...sometimes.

13 Presenting Your WWE 2K19 Cover Athlete

via twitter.com

There are many possible choices of 2K Sports' next cover athlete for its WWE 2K series. Last year, we had Seth Rollins on the cover of WWE 2K18, and in years prior, we had Brock Lesnar, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, John Cena, and The Rock. When WWE 2K19 drops later this year, 2K Sports has a lot of choices. Obviously, there's Roman Reigns (which WWE would absolutely love), but you've also got AJ Styles, Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura, and on the women's side of things, Charlotte Flair, Asuka, and Alexa Bliss. You shouldn't discount Braun Strowman either. But what if 2K Sports and WWE couldn't decide on somebody due to all the potential choices?

Why, how about featuring the kid whom Strowman tagged with at WrestleMania 34 to briefly hold the Raw Tag Team Championships?

Truly, it was "Nicholas-mania" in the days that followed Braun's decision to pick a seemingly random 10-year-old out of the crowd as his partner against The Bar. We don't know if he'll still be a huge hit with the fans in the coming months, but it sure would be interesting, if highly implausible in real life, to see Nicholas do something several grown-ups couldn't quite achieve – becomeWWE 2K19's cover athlete.

12 Is Roode In The Right Building?

via socimage.com

Miraculously, surprisingly, Impact Wrestling is still alive despite all those times in recent years it seemed to have one foot in the grave. That's why we would be remiss if we did a list  of wrestling memes without anything referencing WWE's top North American competitor, super-distant as Impact's popularity may be from WWE's nowadays.

In here, we see Bobby Roode as he made his first appearance in NXT, finally escaping the shackles of what was then known as TNA.

Looking at his face, you could almost swear he's looking a bit confused, not sure why there are so many people in the audience. That just shows you the wide gap in popularity separating WWE and TNA/Impact, and going by this meme's logic, we're pretty sure the likes of Samoa Joe, Eric Young, and EC3 (okay, maybe not EC3 – he's been with WWE before) were wondering if they'd entered the right building for what they thought was their next TNA/Impact taping.

11 The Architect Of Injuries

via sportskeeda.com

Back in 2016, The Miz and Daniel Bryan were feuding on the excellent post-SmackDown Live worked shoot forum we lovingly remember as Talking Smack. The Miz's brutally harsh criticism of Bryan's high-risk style and how it helped end his career so early made for some of the best promo work of 2016. Being the heel, Miz had to put himself over, and he did that by hyping himself as WWE's most durable Superstar, with his "safe" style also meaning that he hasn't gotten hurt in a decade working for the company.

It bears mentioning, however, that The Miz had never feuded with Seth Rollins at that point, and that the Architect's otherwise sterling reputation was sullied by accusations of him being unsafe.

John Cena, Sting, and Finn Balor all had suffered notable injuries (career-ending in Sting's case) in matches against Rollins, and we're sure a lot of people thought that the Architect had a better chance than most of breaking The Miz's injury-free streak.

As it turns out, he didn't, because the A-Lister is back on SmackDown Livefollowing the 2018 Superstar Shakeup, with nary a scratch or limp to show following his Intercontinental Championship feud with Rollins.

10 The Counter Of Decagons

via heelbook.com

Originally thought to be a prestigious match named after the charter member of the WWE Hall of Fame, the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal has become WWE's excuse to give every male Superstar without a WrestleMania match something to do during the Show of Shows. Male Superstars such as Tye Dillinger, who's been buried in irrelevancy for months on SmackDown Live. Despite that, the fans still chant along each time he holds up his hands and does that signature "10" gesture of his.

Of course, Dillinger didn't win this year's Andre battle royal – Matt Hardy did. And given his quirky way of rearranging the names of his fellow wrestlers (The Bucks of Youth, Day of New, etc.) or random objects (Mower of Lawn), you can bet he'd have a Woken Universe-approved nickname for the Perfect Ten. So how about "Counter of Decagons"? Yaaaasssss, (insert Woken Matt laughter here), that sounds like a DELIGHTFUL idea!

9 Dolph Ziggler To "Cash In" On Nikki?

via insta.orenya.com

So Nikki Bella is single again after her six-year relationship with John Cena ended. For a good number of male wrestling fans, that's good news, though it's as if any of us have a chance with the Fearless One. Sure, it's not completely impossible for Bella's next boyfriend to be an ordinary fan like you and me, but the odds are high that she may end up with another wrestler. Someone like the guy she reportedly dated before she and Cena became an item, "The Show-off," Dolph Ziggler.

As Ziggler is quite private when it comes to his love life, we're not aware of any long-term relationships he's been in the last couple of years. But Nikki Bella is allegedly one of the main reasons why Ziggler and Cena seem to have some real-life heat with each other, and with the power couple having just broken up, it's not inconceivable for Dolph to "cash in" and start making the moves on Nikki.

8 Phenomenally Clueless

via wattpad.com

Sadly for those who like a good chuckle at the perceived foibles of arguably WWE's least talented female wrestler in history, Eva Marie officially left the company late last year after over a year of inactivity. It wasn't just the in-ring botches that made fans cringe; she wasn't very good on the mic, and she committed some very notable verbal bloopers throughout the course of her WWE run. For example, she referred to last year's most divisive champion (during his jobber days, natch) as "Ginger Mahal." Umm, Eva, maybe you got carried away thinking about the color of your hair.

Thanks to that on-mic botch and others, the "Clueless Eva Marie" meme was born, and many of them were quite hilarious, this one included.

In here, Ms. All Red Everything doesn't seem to have an idea of who WWE's biggest signing of 2016 is, probably thinking that "AJ Styles" is the name of a fashion line CM Punk's wife opened after she followed him out of the WWE. Of course, we don't think Eva was that clueless in real life, but let's not let that take anything away from a good meme.

7 The Samoan You Wanted Vs. The Samoan You Got

via me.me

This one's a classic that we have no problem going back to, because it still applies to this day. At the 2017 Royal Rumble, Vince McMahon had seemingly trolled the audience big-time with this move – with fans expecting either the erstwhile-injured Finn Balor or the debuting Samoa Joe as the 30th and final entry, out came Roman Reigns, who had lost earlier that evening to Kevin Owens in a Universal Championship match. Fans immediately feared the worst possible case of "#ReignsWinsLOL," but while that didn't come to pass – it was Randy Orton who won that Rumble match – such a move did no favors to WWE as it continued to stubbornly push Reigns as the ultimate babyface hero.

Up to now, it's still a case of "The Samoan You Want vs. The Samoan You're Getting," aka "Samoa Joe vs. That Samoan Named Joe (Anoa'i)."

While Samoa Joe is now on SmackDown Live, with a fresh chance to start anew, there's still a very good chance that his match against Reigns at Backlash will end up with the same old outcome. Repeat after me, kids. Hashtag. Reigns. Wins. LOL.

6 How To Retire The Deadman

via me.me

With each passing WrestleMania, it takes longer and longer for The Undertaker to make his way from the ramp to the ring. In fact, you could probably head to the kitchen and whip up something more than a sandwich during 'Taker's entrance, then head back to the couch and see him still in the middle of his walk to the ring. It makes the ramps appear longer than they really are, and if you come to think of it, The Undertaker's ring entrance could often end up being longer than the actual match. (Just ask John Cena.)

As you can see, this meme was created before WrestleMania 34, so you can't really call The Undertaker's "I'm done" caption at the bottom accurate. Obviously, he wasn't done after all, as he faced Cena at this year's 'Mania, and is due to face Rusev on Rusev Day, er...at the Greatest Royal Rumble. We're not sure when the Deadman will finally call it a career, but if you want to send him packing quickly, just show him a long highway and tell him that's the WrestleMania 35 ramp.

5 What (Did) The Beast And The MLB Twins Have In Common?

via imgflip.com

There are a few reasons why Brock Lesnar isn't as loved by the WWE Universe as he should be. For one, there's the issue of his recent matches, which have arguably seen him exerting the minimum amount of effort needed. Of course, the Survivor Series match against AJ Styles is an exception, but the Phenomenal One can get a great match out of a broomstick, so there's that as well. The other main reason why most fans aren't entirely behind the Beast? Well, he hardly shows up to work, that's why.

In fact, you could have said not too long ago that Lesnar had just about as many WWE work dates as his hometown baseball team, the Minnesota Twins, had wins. That's changed since last season, when the Twins made it to the American League wild card game, but given the six-year playoff drought prior, which included some terrible seasons, there's a good reason why this meme hit so close to home back then.

4 The List Of Cass

via twitter.com

Hey, remember the last time Enzo Amore was popular with the WWE Universe? That was probably right before Big Cass turned on him and was revealed to be the guy behind all those mystery attacks on the Certified G. We all know what happened next – the backstage heat reports, the move to the Cruiserweight Division where he reigned as champion yet stuck out like a sore thumb due to his deficient in-ring skills, the assault accusations, and the firing for not disclosing those accusations to WWE officials. Yes, it seems like eons ago, but you would have once been called "SAWFT" for not liking Muscles Marinara.

Amore's status as a super-over worker and top merchandise seller was underscored by the heartbreak many fans felt when Cass violently ended their friendship on Monday Night Raw.

Indeed, it was almost as good an angle as that one where Kevin Owens presented Chris Jericho with the "List of KO" and viciously attacked him during the Festival of Friendship. Good thing meme makers realized the similarity.

3 The Rusev Calendar

via pinterest.com

Today is Rusev Day, and so was yesterday. Your birthday is Rusev Day, and so is your mom's. December 25? That's not just Christmas Day. That's Rusev Day too. It started out small, with Rusev reacting joyously to what was seen as an upset victory over Randy Orton. But it became big quickly, and there's no doubt that the Bulgarian Brute is among the most over people, if not THE most over person in the WWE right now. And when he finally wins another title, especially if it's of the WWE Championship variety? You bet that's going to be a happy Rusev Day.

Yes, we know that this is a rather simple meme, but you can't argue that it isn't effective, or that it doesn't put a smile on your face. It's also a reminder that despite how over he is with the WWE Universe, and how talented he is in the ring (and on the mic as well), WWE doesn't seem to have any plans beyond having him do the job for SmackDown Live's main eventers.

2 Where's The Rematch Button?

via esmemes.com

Ever had one of those moments while playing WWE 2K where you're controlling your favorite, main-event wrestler, and you end up losing to a jobber? It may have been because you clammed up while trying to kick out, or maybe your friend was just that good. Now imagine what would happen if somehow, the game starts glitching and you're not able to hit the rematch button like you should – now you've got this ham-and-egger holding the WWE Championship in your in-game WWE Universe.

That's what a lot of gamers/wrestling fans felt when Jinder Mahal won the WWE Championship last year, getting pushed out of nowhere because a) the man had come back absolutely ripped, and b) WWE wanted to improve business in India. He's since been busted down to the mid-card, but a lot of fans still wish they had a rematch button to hit each time Jinder beats someone far more over than he is. (Wink wink, Rusev Day!)
